Notes for Rubena Zoe ROSSER
Rubena Zoe Cowin

Daughter of Frederick Aden Rosser, grand-daughter of John Holbin Rosser

Ruby began life at Hugh Street, Unley, in 1885, the daughter of Frederick Aden Rosser and Mary Ann (nee Chard). As the second eldest member of a large family, Ruby had three sisters and four brothers.
When Ruby was 21, she married a widower named Thomas Cowin, a grocer from Cottonville, where Ruby lived, the son of William Cowin.  They married at the home of Thomas Jefferson Gore, at Fairford Street, New Parkside.  Ruby and Thomas had four sons and four daughters.
Before the first war, Thomas was a driver and the family lived at Dening Street, Hawthorn, then Ormond Avenue, Edwardstown, where other members of the Cowin family lived.  Thomas worked as a steward, and after the war, he worked as an enginedriver, and the family moved to 42 Penang Avenue, Colonel Light Gardens.  After Thomas died at the age of 70 years, Ruby remained at their home in Penang Avenue with their son Norris.  Norris moved to Queensland, and Ruby stayed on at the home with her son Douglas, who was a baker, and still lives at the family home in Penang Avenue.
Ruby died at her home in Penang Avenue, Daw Park, leaving her four sons, two daughters, 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  Ruby was buried at Centennial Park Cemetery.
Alec was a bricklayer, and lived at 64 Penang Avenue.  After WW2 he lived at 73 Corunna Avenue, Colonel Light Gardens, where he still lives.  Harold was also a bricklayer then a turner.  With Beryl he lived at 5 Ormonde Avenue in Edwardstown.  In recent years, Harold and Beryl have lived at Medindie.
